If you do not want to purchase the 7-book review set to access this material, it can easily be obtained for free. Each set of PBQs contains approximately 20 questions. This provides three full-length practice tests along with four Behavioral Science passage-based questions (PBQs), four Biochemistry PBQs, four Biology PBQs, four General Chemistry PBQs, four Organic Chemistry PBQs, four Physics and Math PBQs, and four CARS PBQs. If the 7-book set is purchased, it can be registered on the Kaplan website. Many people would agree that this is not worth the price, especially when the 7-book set can be purchased for less and provide more material. The practice test bundle costs $299, which comes to around $100 per test. However, they do provide three full-length practice tests in a bundle or as part of their 7-book review set. Unfortunately, it does not appear that Kaplan sells a package with only the 14 practice tests. For those who decide to take a Kaplan prep course, Kaplan offers 14 full-length practice tests. Kaplan offers many different resources for practice material. Just be aware that the half-lengths that are promoted as diagnostics are believed to provide deflated scores, possibly to increase the sales of prep courses. Many people find that diagnostic exams are pointless for identifying weak points but help quell some of the uncertainty of the MCAT by exposing you to the format early on. Because Next Step offers two free half-lengths that are marketed as “diagnostics,” many people take these at the start of their MCAT study schedule. One feature that sets Next Step apart are their excellent explanations and figures that show how many people answered a question correctly. It seems that Full Length 6 through 10 are not as frequently used and are said to be inferior to the other practice tests. Because of this, many people purchase Full Length 2 through 5. Many people find that the Next Step practice tests are the most similar to the AAMC material out of all of the third-party prep companies. For those who wish to purchase more practice tests, Next Step has several packages that range from $99 to $249. Luckily, they provide a “free bundle” which include Full Length 1, the MCAT Diagnostic half-length test, and the Science Diagnostic half-length test. Next Step offers a total of 10 full-length practice tests, two half-length tests, and a question pack. Here are some thoughts from a "guide" I wrote for a pre-med organization at my school: Overall, it looks like this:ĪAMC > Next Step > Kaplan > ExamKrackers > TPR > Altius > Gold Standard I spent some time scouring the threads here to see what the consensus was.
